Constraining ultralight axions with galaxy surveys

چکیده

Ultralight axions and other bosons are dark matter candidates present in many high energy physics theories beyond the Standard Model. In particular, string axiverse postulates existence of up to $\mathcal{O}(100)$ light scalar constituting sector. Considering a mixture cold matter, we obtain upper bounds for axion relic density $\Omega_a h^2 < 0.004$ mass $10^{-31}\;\mathrm{eV}\leq m_a \leq 10^{-26}\;\mathrm{eV}$ at 95% confidence. We also improve existing constraints by factor over 4.5 2.1 masses $10^{-25}$ eV $10^{-32}$ eV, respectively. use Fourier-space galaxy clustering statistics from Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) demonstrate how surveys break important degeneracies parameter space compared cosmic microwave background (CMB). test validity effective field theory large-scale structure approach mixed ultralight making our own mock catalogs find an anisotropic signature quadrupole. observe enhancement linear bias 1.8 2.4 when allowing 5% be composed $10^{-28}$ simulations. Planck Data and Ultralight Axions

We examine the effects of photon-axion mixing on the CMB. We show that if there are very underdense regions between us and the last scattering surface which contain coherent magnetic fields (whose strength can be orders of magnitude weaker than the current bounds), then photon-axion mixing can induce observable deviations in the CMB spectrum. Specifically, we show that the mixing can give rise ...

Constraining Evolution in the Halo Model Using Galaxy Redshift Surveys

We use the latest observations from the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey to fit the conditional luminosity function (CLF) formulation of the halo-model for galaxies at z = 0. This fit is then used to test the extent of evolution in the halo occupation distribution (HOD) to z = 0.8, by comparing the predicted clustering from this CLF to preliminary results from the DEEP2 Redshift Survey. We show that ...

Constraining feedback in galaxy formation : using galaxy and AGN surveys to shed light on ” gastrophysics ”

We present some results of the new morgana model for the rise of galaxies and active nuclei, and show that the improved physical motivation of the description of star formation and feedback allows to get hints on the physical processes at play. We propose that the high level of turbulence in star-forming bulges is at the base of the observed downsizing of AGNs. In this framework it is also poss...

Constraining modified growth patterns with tomographic surveys

Viable models of modified gravity designed to produce cosmic acceleration at the current epoch, closely mimic the ΛCDM model at the level of background cosmology. However, this degeneracy is generically broken at the level of linear perturbations, where the modifications induce a peculiar scale-dependent pattern. A similar pattern is expected in models of coupled dark energy. I present the main...

Weighing Neutrinos with Galaxy Surveys

We show that galaxy redshift surveys sensitively probe the neutrino mass, with eV mass neutrinos suppressing power by a factor of two. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey can potentially detect N nearly degenerate massive neutrino species with mass mν ∼ 0.65(Ωmh /0.1N) eV at better than 2σ once microwave background experiments measure two other cosmological parameters. Significant overlap exists betwe...
